Had TOP this week. Erm....i must say the organiser has lots of exciting stories and experiences to share but he is probably not much of a person who is good at organising things. Oh well, we all have our strong and weak points right? hahaha..
The theme for this week was on awareness of our community.
Community: a locality inhabited by such a group.
So..my community will be people who lives and works around me. So who are my community exactly? The poor, the elderly, the drunkens, the sex workers, the consturction workers, the ophans. All these people forms my community. They form your too! And the question posted to us was how accepting are we to our community and how willing are we to love them just as Jesus has love them. This is a big challenge for me!
Learnt quite a bit about the pride of the marginalized people in the society when we visited Simei Care Centre and Geylang. Are there churches which are ready to house the patients who are recoving from psychiatric illness, ex sex workers or the 陪读妈妈? Sadly, most of the church are not ready.
One of the pastor said, churches today are only ready for the normal people and are not equipped for the adnormal. How true and how sad. Churches are ready to find them, help them, provide for them, reach out to them, share the gospel with them but housing them? Not really.
=(
The other thought i have was that, we often have discrimination against foreign workers. Which is pretty normal, coz they are different from us outwardly and culturally. Also coz, there have been many crimes related to foreign workers such as theft and molesting. They are smelly, they stares at us when we walk passed them etc etc..lots of differences. But looking from the other angle, any singaporean men would be smelly after working in the construction site for a day, any poor singaporean is capable of committing theft and any perverted singaporean man is also capable for molesting. So how exactly different are the foreign workers from us? Not much really. All of us need to work, eat and provide for our family. Have you ever thought that...our forefathers were also migrants to this land? They were also coolies and maid servants too.
Emo week lor...arrrggghhh...
