Some 14 years ago, shuling gave her life to Jesus on Good Friday/Easter after watching the Jesus Movie. If you do not know what is the Jesus Movie, I suggest you watch the more recent version call Passion =). This movie depicts the cruxification of Jesus. Watching it always bring tears to my eyes.

I like my chinese name : shuling, sounds kinda gentle hor
I dont like it when people call me by my dialect name Sook Leng
So to mark my baptism, I gave myself this name Charmaine to remind myself to bear fruits in my life.

Govt is kinda werid, they wanted us to remember our roots so they say must use dialect names in our birth cert. Then they decided that we should start speaking chinese and the teachers started calling us by our hanyu pinyi names in school. That's how my NRIC ended with both the dialect (Tang Sook Leng) and hanyu pinyin (Deng Shuling) names. After a while...the emphasis in hanyu pinyin name is gone and the teachers stop calling us by our hanyu pinyin names. When will my govt be more decisive?

So i'll intro myself either as shuling or charmaine. Interestingly, some of the church aunties and uncles thought my name is Tang Shuling. Hahahaa...who cares?
